Where We Come From and Where We Are Going

24 Nov Where We Come From and Where We Are Going

The story of La Brava begins, obviously, on the Costa Brava.

In 2008, Cesc Aliart Ros and Sergi Carmona Romero sat with a beer in hand and found the perfect excuse to make more of the rice dishes, fish stews and barbecues we wolfed down from time to time. These almost ritualistic weekend breaks in Sant Feliu de Guíxols and other villages in the province of Girona became the ideal opportunity to enjoy our homemade beer.

We had somewhat unintentionally discovered that the two of us along with our families and friends were the most demanding audience to test out Cesc’s different recipes. After infinite gatherings and tastings came the trips to all the fairs in Catalonia in our van and then on to the Czech Republic, the best academy for those who once dreamed of making beer.

This is the solid base on which stands La Brava, the next logical step in a lifetime of passion for beer, for quality, for a job well done, for sustainability and for the land.

Sergi, with his Master’s in Public Governance and Management, his 2014 Cecot award for Best Business Initiative and his Chamber Award from the Terrassa Chamber of Commerce, was joined by two new associates: Paco Sánchez Ropero and Jaume Pagès Barenys. Paco, a telecommunications engineer with family ties to the world of hospitality, has introduced technological improvements to develop the La Brava production process. Jaume brings with him his extensive experience as a product and marketing manager for various firms and as director of his own artist management and music representation agency.

Combining the knowledge, skills and determination of the four of us, advice from Barcelona Activa and the Girona and Terrassa Chambers of Commerce and funding from numerous business angels, we founded the company, which enjoys the additional boost offered by being based in the Vulpellac Nexes incubator.

The search for a recipe tailor made to suit the tastes of the people of Girona was our first great challenge, which we finally managed to achieve. We now want to share it with you in a toast to a natural, quality beer, brewed using traditional methods and sold at a competitive price.

Because, apart from water, barley, hops, and yeast, beer is also brewed with such stuff as dreams are made on.
